Coastal Country-Chic Cottage | North Norfolk | Sleeps 8

The space

Swap a packed party itinerary for coastal walks, leisurely meals and evenings together at Samphire Cottage. Set in the peaceful Norfolk village of Stiffkey, near Wells-next-the-Sea, this stylishly renovated cottage sleeps eight guests across four bedrooms. It’s a lovely setting for a smaller hen group who want quality time together, with the coast close by and a village pub within strolling distance.

Country-chic interiors give the house a relaxed, welcoming feel, while French doors connect the living spaces with gardens to the east and west. Start the day with coffee outside, head out to explore the Norfolk coast, then return for a shared supper and a catch-up around the wood-burning stove.

The emphasis here is on an intimate celebration rather than a big nightlife base. Think a birthday-style dinner for the bride, a gentle seaside adventure and plenty of room in the schedule to put your feet up.

Inside the house

The lounge is made for gathering after a day outdoors. Wooden flooring, a neutral colour scheme and generously soft sofas create a comfortable setting for chatting, opening a bottle of something special or watching the smart TV. On cooler evenings, the wood-burning stove adds warmth and atmosphere; the cottage also has heating for stays outside the summer months.

In the kitchen-dining area, blue cabinetry, a butler sink and a double range cooker bring together country character and practical cooking space. The oven gives you scope to prepare a celebratory supper, while the rustic wooden dining table seats all eight guests together. There’s no need to split the group across separate tables when it’s time for a toast, a homemade brunch or a round of bride-themed questions over dessert.

When the weather allows, open the French doors and let the fresh Norfolk air flow through while you eat.

The sleeping arrangements offer a useful mix for a group of friends. Upstairs, there’s a king-size bedroom and a twin bedroom, with the twin beds able to be arranged as a double if required. These rooms have access to Jack-and-Jill-style bathroom facilities. Downstairs, a further double bedroom and a bunk room have access to another bathroom. Bed linen is provided, and the bedrooms continue the cottage’s warm, natural styling. Check your preferred bed configuration with the host before your stay so everyone knows where they’ll be sleeping.

Hen weekend highlights

The enclosed garden is a standout feature for a relaxed hen celebration. There’s lawn space for gentle garden games, plus two verandas with outdoor seating, one facing east and the other west. That gives your group a choice of spots for a morning coffee, an afternoon catch-up or an early-evening cocktail before dinner.

Use the outdoor space for a low-key bride quiz or simply settle in and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. The garden is described as safe for dogs, too; if someone hopes to bring a four-legged companion, confirm the pet arrangements with the host when enquiring.

This cottage’s appeal lies in its sociable dining space, cosy lounge and private garden rather than resort-style facilities. A hot tub, spa, games room and barbecue are not listed, so plan your weekend around the features available. A shared meal, a coastal walk and a relaxed evening together suit the setting beautifully, without needing a packed programme of entertainment.

Location & getting around

Samphire Cottage is in Stiffkey, with the village shop and pub a short stroll away. Wells-next-the-Sea is a short drive from the cottage, making it an easy addition to your hen weekend plans. Blakeney, Cley and the Georgian town of Holt are also within driving reach for a change of scene.

The surrounding landscape is part of a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and a short walk brings you to the coast, sandy creeks and the North Norfolk Coast Path. Pack walking shoes for a scenic group outing, with plenty of opportunities to pause, take photographs and enjoy the coastal views.

For a wildlife-focused activity, look into seal-watching opportunities around Blakeney Point. Nearby stately homes, museums and the North Norfolk Railway offer alternatives if your group prefers history and sightseeing. A car is useful for exploring beyond the village; if you’re planning evening drinks farther afield, arrange transport in advance rather than relying on walkable nightlife.
