Pool Hen House | Latheronwheel | Sleeps 16

The space

Set in Latheronwheel on the beautiful Caithness coast, Craiglea Lodge gives your hen group the space to slow down, spread out and enjoy proper quality time together. Made up of two cosy interconnecting cottages, it works especially well for groups who want the sociable feel of one big house while still having a little extra privacy when it is time to recharge.

This is a brilliant choice for a hen weekend with a relaxed, scenic feel rather than a full-on city break. Think sea air, Highland views, cosy fires, long dinners, pool time and a glass of fizz after a day on the NC500. With space for up to 16 guests, the lodge suits close-knit groups, mixed-age hens and weekends where comfort matters just as much as celebration.

The setting is one of the real highlights. You are surrounded by dramatic Highland scenery, with the coast, harbours, viewpoints and countryside all close by. It is a lovely backdrop for pre-wedding catch-ups, group photos and slower mornings with coffee while everyone eases into the day.

Inside the house

Craiglea Lodge is arranged across two interconnecting cottages, giving the group plenty of flexibility. Each cottage has a double bedroom, a twin room with its own bathroom, plus a single room with a trundle bed, alongside a family bathroom. Extra beds and sofa-bed options can help accommodate larger groups, making the layout practical for hens who need a mix of sharing rooms and quieter sleeping spaces.

The interiors are warm, homely and easy to settle into. The cosy lounges are made for relaxed evenings, with real fires that give the house a welcoming Highland feel. It is the kind of space where some of the group can curl up with a drink, others can put a film on, and everyone can gather for games, speeches or a bride quiz without feeling cramped.

The dining areas are a major plus for hen parties. There is room for everyone to sit down together, whether you are planning a home-cooked Scottish supper, a buffet-style grazing table, or a celebratory breakfast before heading out for the day. The modern kitchens are well equipped and include practical touches such as a washing machine and tumble dryer, which is especially handy for longer stays or activity-filled weekends.

Towels and bed linen are provided, and complimentary toiletries are available too, so your group can pack a little lighter. The lodge is also pet friendly for up to two well-behaved dogs, ideal if the bride wants her four-legged best friend to be part of the celebration.

Hen weekend highlights

The standout feature for a hen weekend is the private indoor leisure area. Having your own heated swimming pool means the group can enjoy a dip whenever it suits, without needing to book a spa slot or leave the property. Start the morning with a gentle swim, plan an afternoon pool session with music and mocktails, or wind down after a coastal walk.

There is also a sauna, bringing a spa-style touch to the weekend. It is a lovely addition for groups who want something indulgent but low-key, especially after travelling or exploring the Highlands. Pair it with robes, face masks and a chilled bottle in the leisure seating area for an easy at-home pamper session.

Outside, the BBQ adds another sociable option for your itinerary. On brighter days, gather the group for a casual BBQ feast, raise a toast to the bride and make the most of those wide Highland views. The setting naturally lends itself to relaxed evenings rather than noisy nightlife, so it is ideal for hens who want meaningful time together in a beautiful location.

For entertainment, the lodge keeps things simple and group-friendly: fireside drinks, TV time, board games, bride-themed quizzes, pool sessions, sauna downtime and shared meals around the table. There is no need to over-plan every hour here; the house gives you plenty to do while still leaving space for the conversations, laughs and little moments that make a hen weekend feel special.

Location & getting around

Craiglea Lodge is in Latheronwheel, a peaceful coastal village in Caithness and a fantastic base for exploring the Scottish Highlands and the famous NC500 route. If your hen group loves scenery, fresh air and adventure, this location has plenty to offer. Nearby coastal spots, harbours, beaches and viewpoints make lovely daytime outings, whether you want a gentle walk, a photo stop or a scenic drive with a playlist on.

The area is well suited to groups who prefer countryside charm over clubbing. For meals out, pubs, shops and larger services, plan ahead and make use of nearby towns such as Wick and Thurso, both reachable by car. If you are arranging a bigger evening out or a distillery visit, booking taxis or a private minibus in advance is recommended, as rural Highland transport can be limited compared with city destinations.

During the day, your group can explore dramatic coastal routes, historic sites, beaches and classic NC500 scenery. Latheronwheel itself offers a calm base to come back to after your adventures, with the lodge providing all the comfort you need for a cosy night in. It is a strong choice for hens who want something different from the usual party-house weekend: scenic, spacious, private and full of character.
