What is The Varsity Club?
We are Oxford's rooftop reward: a four-level cocktail bar, lounge and club above the Covered Market at 9a High Street, crowned by our independent rooftop terrace with 360-degree views of the dreaming spires. The terrace is open year-round with covered areas and heaters for winter; below it, our third-floor cocktail lounge pours by day and night, and the first-floor club rocks until 2am on Saturdays.
Can we book a cocktail masterclass for our hen party?
Shake, stir, sip: our expert-led cocktail masterclass is £35 per person for groups of 6 to 12. You are welcomed with a glass of prosecco and introduced to your mixologist, journey through vodka, rum, gin and tequila sampling four to eight shareable cocktails, then step behind the bar to craft the cocktail of your choice with expert guidance, before a cheeky farewell shot sends you up to the cocktail lounge. Non-alcoholic options are available; just ask your host. Classes are standing classes, so tell us in advance if you need seats.
How do masterclass bookings work?
For groups of 6 to 12 on Saturdays, book instantly online; for groups of 13 or more, or alternative dates, send an enquiry through the booking system and our team will assist. Full payment in advance secures a masterclass booking. The class length is not fixed on our booking page, so confirm your running time when you book, and arrive promptly: we can only hold tables for 10 minutes from your booking time.
Can we hire space for a bigger celebration?
Our spaces run from gatherings of 10 to celebrations of 300 across four floors: the main roof terrace for up to 100 (exclusive hire for three hours; Sunday to Tuesday hire fee £1,500 with £2,000 minimum spend, other days on enquiry), the End Terrace for 50, the cocktail lounge and Gallery, the Level 2 bar for up to 90, and the Club Floor for 100 to 250. Full venue hire is available. Tell us the shape of the party and we will tailor it.
What if we just want drinks with a view?
Then the terrace is your table: signature TVC Garden cocktails and classic Aperol spritzes above the spires, with our seasonal pod (heating, blankets and rugs in colder months) for something more intimate. From Sunday to Friday, selected cocktails are 2 for £15 in the lounge. Please note we operate an over-21s policy on Fridays and Saturdays after 10pm.

We did a cocktail class for a friends 60th birthday . It was so well set up, and ASH Who ran the class for us made it so much fun! She was wonderful and we got a chance to make our own cocktails competing against each other in twos! ASH made that lots of fun . We then had a meal inside and a drink on the rooftop which has incredible views. Can’t wait to come back! Thankyou to ASH for making our afternoon incredible!

We booked a private hire for 3 hours for our wedding day on 10/08/2026. We ordered food from the finger food menu and had Prosecco on arrival for 21 guests. The food exceeded our expectations and was utterly delicious. The service was also fantastic with a young lady who was incredibly attentive walking through taking orders rather than us having to go to the bar. Brilliant atmosphere and view (though LOTS of stairs). We will definitely be back, thank you!

A nice pub with a great rooftop with a beautiful view on Oxford's roofs, which is worth visiting. Very few courses to choose from, so not a great choice to have dinner but a nice place where to have a drink with friends or partner.
