Frequently asked questions

When do your brewery tours run?

Our guided tours run Monday to Friday all year round at 11am and 2pm, starting and finishing at Palmers Wine Store. Tours last two hours and places are limited, so we advise booking in advance.

What does the tour cover?

You will follow the whole brewing process through our historic thatched brewhouse - the only remaining thatched brewery in the UK - from the raw ingredients arriving in the Malt Loft to the finished cask ales we have been brewing here in Bridport since 1794. The tour ends back at the Wine Store with a tasting of a few halves of the final product, alongside our ciders, gin and whisky.

Can groups book?

Yes - for groups of 10 or more we can offer more flexible timings and options. Contact Palmers Wine Store on 01308 427500 to arrange it.

How much are tickets?

Tickets are booked through our website and the Wine Store; adult tickets are around £18 per person at the time of writing, so please confirm the current price when you book.

Is the tour accessible, and what should we wear?

Unfortunately the tour is not accessible to wheelchair users, as the historic brewhouse has several steep staircases and uneven floors. Please wear suitable footwear - no stilettos, heels or open toes - and dress for a hot, humid working brewery.

Can children come, and is there parking?

Young people over 12 are welcome with an accompanying adult (maximum two children per adult), though only over-18s can take part in the beer tasting - bring ID. Free parking is available in the main brewery car park to the north of the brewery.

Everyone in our party of six (wives included) enjoyed the tour and hearing about the history and background of this centuries old family run brewery. It was fascinating to see how the process works and the equipment, both and new. At the end you are introduced to the range of brews in a reasonably generous tasting session: discovering differences imparted by degree of barley roasting or variety of hops - in the pursuit of science of course.

Our guide Lucy made an interesting and informative tour fun and lighthearted. We saw the whole procedure and got close up to the machinery, both historic (some still in use) and new. This brewery uses traditional methods whilst incorporating modern technology. At the end of the tour we enjoyed sampling all their great beers brewed on the premises plus their ciders, gin and whiskey. They generously gave each of us a sampling glass. A fun couple of hours and great value for money.

Like other breweries the Palmer’s Brewery retains many of its original features in a beautiful building. The tour was presented by a very knowledgeable guide. It was delivered in a very easy to understand format but the guide was able to answer more searching questions. The brewery has a splendid history and the tour did it justice. I thoroughly recommend a visit.
